Its easy to know that you have know when you have arrived to this
little piece of paradise when you hear the sounds of the falling
waters and feel the cool mountain air. Be sure to take your swimming
costumes, as it is almost impossible to resist the temptation to bathe
in the clear cool waters, apart from the main pool under the largest of
the water falls there are a selection of smaller pools to find and enjoy.
You will have to go a long way to find such an unspoilt beauty spot, the
Algar Waterfalls located inland from Altea on the outskirts of Callosa D'Ensarriá

spring water filled pools. When you arrive you will walk past a number of bars
and restaurants which have swimming pools as well as signs to a small train museum
and souvenir shops selling various products including nisperos, there are huge
amounts of nispero groves surrounding the falls and a massive 22 million kilos
of nisperos are harvested in the surrounding valleys.
The surrounding area is full of plant life such as reeds, bamboo and oleanders.
It will be difficult to drag yourself away from the pools, however do take a
walk to the "Arboretum" the garden of natural spices, here you will find a fine
example of typical Mediterranean spice plants. Adjacent to the "Arboretum" is
an environmental museum with a collection of medicinal and aromatic herbs and oils
and perfumes, all of these products can be purchased.
Above the bathing area a picnic area has been prepared with seating, tables,
barbeques, toilets and showers. |
